Google Chrome OS Laptops announced for UK availability in June

10th May 2011

Google has announced the availability of the Google Chrome OS with production laptops from Samsung and Acer known as Chromebooks from June 15th in the UK.

The device and OS:

  • needs no patching
  • doesn't hold persistent data (no backups)
  • still supports offline access for apps like Google Apps for Business
  • boots in 10 seconds
  • supports Citrix Receiver and VMWare to access legacy, enterprise non-web applications
  • is available on a subscription basis (including replacements) from less than £20 per user per month
Is this the end of the traditional 3 year desktop refresh and the need for complex Windows desktops?
