Protection
Office Internet use is not only vulnerable to external security threats but can be prone to misuse from within. Maintaining productivity, blocking offensive or pornographic content, monitoring levels of personal internet use and ensuring appropriate use of bandwidth are all important issues for executive managers and system administrators. These issues are often addressed within organizations via Acceptable Use Policies (AUP).
WebMarshal is able to monitor and enforce any AUP, enabling you to protect your users from inappropriate content and your business from abuse, embarrassment and legal liability. WebMarshal provides you with powerful, granular control over all aspects of Internet use:
- Content analyze and categorize new websites in real-time to ensure that inappropriate but previously unrecorded websites are still blocked. WebMarshal can sort new websites into relevant categories such as adult, hate, gambling, shopping, trading or even humor so you can provide granular access to different types of content. WebMarshal can also analyze text on webmail sites such as Gmail and Hotmail to ensure that email policies are not circumvented this can apply to both downloading and uploading of webmail, protecting confidentiality and preventing theft of intellectual property.
- URL Filtering Lists integrate with third-party URL filtering list providers or you can build your own with WebMarshal as your users browse the Internet. WebMarshal applies both blacklists and whitelists to prevent access to inappropriate content but ensure unhindered access to valid business websites.
- File Downloads & Uploads control access to different file types such as executables, video, music files and archive files like ZIP. File downloads can be scanned for viruses and spyware in real-time to prevent infection. You can control file access by both the type of file (over 175 supported file types) and the size to block downloads of excessively large files. WebMarshal can also block attempted file uploads. You can limit rights for uploading specific file types such as CAD files or Excel spreadsheets to authorized users, thus protecting your intellectual property or confidential data. You can reduce your organizations legal liability exposure by preventing users swapping copyright files such as music and video.
- Users manage user accounts simply and easily. WebMarshal can import accounts directly from Active Directory (with support for NTLM authentication between the client and proxy server) and Novell Directory Services. WebMarshal can apply polices to individuals, groups or all users. You can set up custom polices that apply different rules and privileges to different groups of users. Groups can be by department, city, country, security level or any other criteria you require. You can quickly and effortlessly drag-and-drop users between groups to change a users privileges.
- Quotas and Personal Use: manage Internet access as a business resource; set quotas for Internet use limited by time and/or bandwidth. You can allocate different levels of quotas for different users (bigger quotas for those that require them). You can also apply flexible quotas that allow users to automatically extend their quota (but raises flags for reporting). You can also apply flexible policies that prevent personal use during work time but allow personal use during lunchtime and out-of-hours. WebMarshal also supports soft-blocking which warns a user that they may be about to access inappropriate content but gives them the option to click-through to the site if they feel it is of business benefit to them. This action is then recorded and can be reported on.
Compliance
Organizations around the world are increasingly being governed by industry regulations and legal compliance. Sarbanes-Oxley, CIPA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley and the HIPAA Act are recent examples of legislation placing responsibility for compliance on businesses; rules and standards for protecting confidentiality, maintaining information privacy, levels of disclosure, auditing and preventing harassment or exposure to offensive content.
WebMarshal provides a range of solutions to meet a broad set of compliance requirements:
- Exposure to Inappropriate Content: for almost any organization from public schools to large businesses there is an obligation for the organization to limit exposure to inappropriate content, whether accidental or intentional. WebMarshal can even lock down all Internet access if required, and only allow users to browse to your specifically approved websites.
- Confidentiality: manage confidential content such as legal documents, product designs, roadmaps, customer lists, non-disclosure agreements and contracts. Prevent these kinds of files from leaving your organization via webmail.
- Disclaimers: remind users of your acceptable Internet usage policies whenever they start a new browsing session and have them acknowledge that they will comply with these policies before proceeding.
- Reporting: report on all aspects of Internet use. From where your users been browsing through to what files they have downloaded, WebMarshal can allow you to analyze and understand how you are meeting any compliance obligations you may have.
Reports
