Management Functions

Here are some of the out-of-the-box management functions provided by AppManager for BlackBerry:

  • Monitors the availability of critical Windows NT Services, such as BESAlert and BlackBerry Server.
  • Tracks and reports the total amount of disk space used by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server tracking log.
  • Determines messages that can be automatically archived or deleted when DebugLogSize exceeds a predetermined amount.
  • Identifies hung or blocked threading within the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the Exchange connection and re-establishes new threads by automatically restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server NT Services.
  • Alerts and gathers metrics on actual message delivery time from mailbox to wireless handheld devices.
  • Provides up/down alerts and trending metrics for overall end-to-end connectivity.
  • Calculates message activity (in bytes) to all handhelds.
  • Provides attributes for each user serviced by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • Interrogates BlackBerry Enterprise Server to list all Exchange messaging servers and the total number of BlackBerry-enabled mailboxes for each.
  • Provides detailed data that quickly lists all messaging servers with mailbox accounts that are serviced by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Implementation

The solution combines Ancoris services with the implementation of NetIQ's BlackBerry module which is one component of NetIQ's AppManager Suite . The Ancoris Extension Framework for MOM extends Microsoft Operations Manager to include BlackBerry monitoring, both environments provide monitoring for Microsoft Exchange and AppManager additionally provides support for Lotus Domino.
