Google has launched a range of web-based security applications for email filtering, encryption and archiving for corporate customers.

The Google software-as-a-service (SaaS) security technology is a development of the services offered by Postini, the security company it acquired last July for $625m (£317m).

Google Message Security, which costs from £6 per user, is powered by Postini's filtering system to block inbound spam and malware; it provides virus detection, content and attachment policy management, TLS security and outbound email filtering and disclaimers.

The cost rises to £12.50 per user per annum for Google Message Discovery — which adds archiving as a fully managed service for both external and internal email and provides comprehensive search and audit facilities. This includes unlimited storage for a year's worth of message-data retention. Retention periods can be increased up to 10 years at additional cost. 

The Google Messaging Services are powered by Postini which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Google. Postini has recognition from Gartner Group, Information Security Magazine, PC Magazine and Frost and Sullivan as the best Outsourced Managed Email Service.
