G Suite and Chrome help deliver youth services at Epic

Jamie Holyland, Epic’s Director of Communications, needed to move Epic’s IT away from that provided by Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council (RBKC). We partnered with Jamie to help Epic set up an independent IT infrastructure with G Suite and Chrome devices.  This combination provides them with many tools that make their work more mobile and efficient.

Epic CIC is the UK’s first youth service employee led mutual and provides a comprehensive range of youth support services to children and young people. Established on 1 January 2014 in response to changing public sector funding, Epic CIC emerged from the Royal Borough of Kensington Youth Support and Development Service.

Now

  • G Suite is used by around 140 users on ten sites, who regularly work from home or from other locations such as schools
  • Being able to access documents from anywhere on Chromebooks or smartphones is driving a culture of mobile and flexible working. This enables note taking and catching up with work while young people are busy with an activity.
  • Staff work more efficiently with Google Docs for collaboration, Google Drive for information sharing and Google Hangouts to reduce time spent travelling to meetings.
  • Because of the nature of the business, a lot of forms need to be completed. Google Forms make it easy to set up questionnaires and collate responses automatically, making it much faster and easier to get things done.
  • Apps and extensions in Chrome make it easy to engage on social media.
  • Savings on IT were around £67,000 in the first year and £140,000 per annum thereafter.
